In general, what type of work do you do? Is there anything specific in your thesis? The three pieces I had shown were pieces about exploring maternal relationships and the

complex feelings and emotions that come from those relationships. In general my work’s about relationships but it changes from piece to piece. I’m very much an intuitive worker, so I don’t really go in with ideas. I kind of have a general sense of ideas but it’s more about making the work as a process than about the final piece for me.
What are your favorite media and why? I don’t limit myself to materials, definitely, but furniture has always been something I’ve continuously worked with. I really enjoy working with things that I find. I collect things. At the moment, I’ve been working a lot with concrete. That’s a really fascinating material, a really difficult, challenging material to work with.
Talk about the Crossley Gallery. I’m the co-director of the Crossley Gallery. It’s a student-run gallery. Students can apply for a show. There are about 15 slots for shows each semester. It’s open to students in any major. It’s an opportunity for them to exhibit their work and have people in the community and in the College come look at it. We put together a committee of students who help us pick who shows in the Gallery. We oversee everything. If they need help putting work up or taking it down, we help with that.
It’s an opportunity for us to learn how a gallery is run and what’s involved with that. It’s something beneficial for a résumé and knowing whether or not we want to go that route to gallery management.
