NEW STUDENTS
Fall 2008 Scheduling Information

If you have been accepted as a 1st year student, you will receive your official schedule at Orientation.  Your schedule will be pre-set and will consist of an introductory Art History course, specific required CORE Studio courses for your major and a Liberal Arts course, usually EN 151 Writing Studio.  Illustration majors will have the option of choosing another Liberal Arts course or an elective course during Orientation Week or Drop/Add Week.  The recommended course load is five courses.

If you have been accepted as a 2nd-Year or 3rd-Year student, you will be scheduled for the required courses in your declared major in the sections that have space available.   If you need to add more courses in order to have a full schedule of five courses, you can add additional courses during Orientation Week or during Drop/Add Week.

To help the Academic Advisors schedule each student appropriately, you may download this Freshman Pre-Registration Form and fax it to the Advising Office at 941-359-6115.  This will help the Advisors know if you have  AP credits, transfer courses, and if you have scheduling preferences. Please be sure that all final transcripts are sent to the College before classes begin.

IQ.Web

You will be given information on how to access your e-mail address and password in a mailing this summer. This will provide you access to IQ.Web where you will be able to access your class schedule, your academic plan, your on-line transcript, the Fall 2008 Course Selection Guide, and your financial information.  If you expect to receive transfer credit for course work taken at another institution, you can check your on-line transcript to see what transfer credit you received.  You can also check your academic plan to see what degree requirements have been satisfied with the transfer credit you receive.

2008 Core STUDIO PROGRAM CURRICULUM

The Core Studio Program is an intensive 1st Year curriculum all students complete. All 1st Year students are required to take one Core class in five categories listed here.

Core courses with odd numbers are only offered in the fall semester.  Courses with even numbers are only offered in the spring semester.

TRANSFER STUDENTS

Your level of ability in your studio classes determines your class level. Your acceptance letter from Ringling College offers you enrollment as a Freshman (1st-Year student), Sophomore (2nd-Year student) or Junior (3rd-Year student).

All of Ringling College’s studio courses are sequential and have pre-requisites.  Students have to complete the 1st-year studio courses before taking 2nd-year studio courses; 2nd-year studio courses before taking 3rd-year studio courses; and 3rd-year studio courses before taking the 4th-year capstone/thesis courses. The Office of Admissions reviews the previous studio courses you have completed and your portfolio to determine what transfer credit will be awarded for studio work and your placement level.

If you have taken Liberal Arts courses at another college/university, those courses will be evaluated by the academic advisors in the Office of Advising, Records, and Registration Services to determine if they meet the degree requirements for the Bachelor of Fine Arts or the Bachelor of Arts Degree. The number of Liberal Arts classes completed has no bearing on your class level. Only studio classes determine your class level.  Students enrolling with an Associate of Arts or a Bachelor of Arts degree from a regionally accredited college or university will be considered to have met the Liberal Arts requirements for the BFA degree. Students with an International Baccalaureate diploma may be given credit for individual liberal arts courses if they score 5 through 7 on the IB Higher-Level Examinations.

Please make sure you have requested a final transcript from your last college/university so that you can receive the appropriate transfer credit.

Once you receive your password for IQ.Web, you will be able to check your on-line transcript to see the amount of transfer credit you received.
