I've worked at Ringling College since 1992. During those years, Ringling School became Ringling College, and a student body of 400 or so became a campus where 900 live on campus and more than 1300 are here to study in many more majors. Our ARC began as a 400 square foot outpost and is now twice as big and much more visible on the second floor of the Ulla Searing Student Center. In another year or so, we will move into the beautiful, state-of-the-art library on its second floor. We look forward to working more closely with librarians and our soon-to-be neighbors from the writing and international student programs. It's been a wonderful journey.
As ARC director since its inception in 1994, I first developed the writing consultation program and continue to supervise our fabulous staff of peer writing consultants--I keep my hand in as a consultant as well.
In 2002, the ARC assumed responsibility for disabilities services. Since then, I also arrange all accommodations for students with documented disabilities.
I studied English composition and literature in grad school and still teach at least one writing class a year. As disabilities services provider, I've put my roots as a child of social workers to excellent use and developed a deep respect for the spirit of the laws guaranteeing all students access to our programs as well as for the compassion and high standards of our dedicated instructors and department heads. I can also help with reading, studying, time management, and directions to the local drivers' license bureau! In other words, I pitch in wherever I can. Our mission is to support the Ringling College mission of educating the whole student. I hope to meet you and look forward to helping you however we can while you are part of the Ringling community.

I am the Reading, Study and Time Management Specialist, and have Doctorate and Masters degrees in Reading Diagnosis & Remediation, and Education Curriculum & Development from the University of Maryland.
Based on an individual student interview, I determine your strengths, weaknesses and learning style, and then develop study strategies and time management programs that relate to the demands of your major and current projects, as well as your unique personality, and social needs.
My services are not exclusive to struggling, or disabled students. I also see many students who want to maintain their high academic averages for scholarships and reach their own high standards.

Five Tips For Time Planning & Project Management
1. Avoid Surprises!
Know what is coming for the entire semester. Read every syllabus by the second week of the semester. Put every assignment on your monthly calendar
2. Be Realistic!
Generously overestimate the most time each assignment will take, and break it down into small, manageable components with a specific time and day for each.
3. Take Control!
Know your peak and low concentration levels, and develop a study schedule that pairs challenging work with high-focus times, and fun and distractions with the low focus times.
4. Do Not Avoid Distractions!
Schedule them at a time that does not interfere with homework.
Complete every class assignment’s requirements. Then, if there is extra time that week, go back to a high-priority assignment and go beyond the requirements.
