Particulate Respirators

There are nine types of particulate respirators (dust masks). They are rated by their ability to efficiently filter particles and by their resistance to oil. See the particulate respirator information sheet.

Particulate respirators are only useful if they are donned (put on) correctly and fit checked. The removal of the respirator is also important to prevent contamination. See the necessary steps to be taken in the relevant sheets.

If your employer provides respirators for your voluntary use, or if you provide your own respirator, you need to take certain precautions to be sure that the respirator itself does not present a hazard. OSHA’s voluntary use information is provided; all five information sheets should also be read and followed carefully.
