Strong yet fragile, glass is a material that has been used for thousands of years, serving utilitarian and decorative functions. Relative to the history of art, the practice of making glassware was left to skilled masters until recently when artists began breaking the rules and stretching the known limits of the material. It is thanks to these risk-takers that glass has become a participant in the greater sphere of contemporary art. Extending Boundaries, organized by Danielle Colon, was brought together out of a desire to showcase the new medium being introduced to Ringling College of Art and Design, presenting work in glass by both students and faculty.
Junior Show 1. February 26-28, 2015. Closing Reception February 28, 5-8pm.
Crossley Gallery is a student-operated gallery established by the Fine Arts Department in 1999 to showcase the talent of Ringling College students. The gallery experience provides the students an opportunity to learn the challenges of exhibition planning, scheduling, and installation.
