"The First Time" curated by Daisy Lora

November 12-November 25, 2014, Opening Reception November 12, 2014, 4-6pm

Daisy Lora describes her exhibition: "The First Time" explores the way people perceive a first experience. These milestones, whether they are viewed positively or painfully, have a profound effect on each individual in ways they may not realize."

Fascinated by this concept, Daisy Lora, a Business of Art and Design Junior, was assisted by a group of Ringling students enrolled in the course: BU 455 The Role of the Curator in Contemporary Art, taught by Mark Ormond.

Lora filmed interviews of 15 students recalling their "firsts". She states, "The 'confessions' are raw and honest with moments of delightful humor as well as gut-wrenching pain. Capturing the individuals' expressions and mannerisms, these interviews reveal more than words alone could."

Lora describes the planned installation: "The interviews will be projected on the walls of the Basch Gallery immersing the viewer in these powerful stories. The exhibition will remind the viewer of their own cathartic, yet often, clumsy discoveries, and how they have molded who they have become."

The exhibition will be on display from Wednesday, November 12 to Tuesday, November 25, beginning with an Opening Reception on Wednesday, November 12 from 4:00 to 6:00pm. A gallery talk will be held in the Willis Smith Galleries at 5:00pm on Wednesday, November 19th.
