Annual Community Exhibition: Women Contemporary Artists

Selby Galleries I & II: Selby Gallery hosts its annual community exhibition in May. Each year a local arts group that has made a contribution to the Sarasota arts scene is featured. This year the juried work will be by Women Contemporary Artists.

Opening reception: Fri., May 15, 5 - 7 p.m.

[Women Contemporary Artists] WCA is a regional organization of women actively engaged in the visual arts. Their mission is to provide visibility, encouragement and inspiration to women artists. WCA's many activities include juried member exhibitions and art-related programs. Members unite to plan their own solo and group exhibitions. Business meetings and programs are held for members and guests. Members assemble for an annual fall retreat to explore different art techniques and work independently; and monthly gatherings are held at members’ homes to critique artwork in progress and socialize. They also present scholarship awards to local women college students who choose to continue their art education. This year's recipient of the $ 1,000.00 scholarship, awarded by WCA, was Tammy Zeitler from the Ringling College of Art and Design.
