The title of this exhibition derives from a course - PH 121 in the Photography and Digital Imaging major that is taught by Anju Kulkarni. The images on view in the Smith galleries were taken by Amber Smith, Dino Trait, John Gilman, Keith Fratantaro, Morgan Sanders, Rachel Kuzma and River Thompson, who were students in the fall 2014 class.
The final project is a one-night event in November in the Roskamp Exhibition Hall where these works are displayed. A runway show organized by the students for that evening features the clothing in the images, the designers, and the models.
For the photographs, students choose their own models, clothing and accessories. They are responsible for all aspects of their photo session including location, lighting, props, hair and make-up.
Most importantly, the student must understand the art of producing images worthy of selection for print that would be desirable to a publisher or anyone else in the world of fashion.
Kulkarni encourages the students to have faith, to believe in themselves and "to avoid negative company." She says "when challenged, students will rise to the occasion." This group of images proves her correct.
