Best Databases For Starting Your Research

Art Source is the first stop for arts research. It covers fine arts, contemporary art, art history, architecture, costume design, advertising, interior design, crafts, photography, printmaking, sculpture, video and more. With full-text for over 630 journals (including many international), citations for even more, plus an image collection, it's a great database to find research on the arts!
Art & Design Databases
Provides abstracts and citations for articles, news items, and reviews published in a wide variety of design and applied arts magazines, newspapers, and journals from 1973 onwards.
Three different databases in one:
Design Abstracts Retrospective does abstracting and indexing of article titles from 1900 to 1986 with some sources back to 1894.
Arts + Architecture ProFILES has profiles of nearly 20,000 artists, designers, craftspeople and architects active since c.1900.
Review contains digitized versions of 19th and early 20th century fine and decorative arts journals.
Contains the entire run of Vogue magazine (US edition), from the first issue in 1892 to the current month, reproduced in high-resolution color page images. Every page, advertisement, cover and fold-out has been included. You can also search by photographer, advertisement, garment type, designer and brand names.
General Databases (Contain Many Topics, Including Art and Design)
Includes full text magazine, newspaper, and journal articles as well as citations in a wide variety of disciplines.
LexisNexis Academic (LNA) has extensive news coverage from more than 2,500 newspapers and over 1,000 magazines and journals, plus a variety of business content (including company and industry profiles) and legal research sources.
Find citations, abstracts, and full-text articles in peer-reviewed papers, theses, books, and journals from academic publishers and other scholarly organizations.
