    2011 Fine Arts Alumnus Shane Murphy Wins Honorable Mention from International Sculpture Center

    October 13, 2011 - Ringling College of Art and Design fine arts alumnus Shane Murphy (2011) has won honorable mention in the Outstanding Student Achievement in Contemporary Sculpture Awards from the International Sculpture Center (ISC).

    There were over 500 submissions from undergraduate and graduate students from around the country, and only 26 winners, including honorable mentions.

    A Ringling College fine arts student has received this award four out of the last five years.  Nathan Skiles, who is a Ringling College fine arts faculty member, won it in 2006 as a graduate student at Montclaire State University.  Nathan was the faculty sponsor for Shane Murphy, as well as the 2007 winner, Sorine Anderson.

    • 2008 Reva Castillenti

    • 2007 Sorine Anderson

    The ISC established the Outstanding Student Achievement in Contemporary Sculpture Award program in 1994 to recognize deserving sculpture students and to encourage their continued commitment to the field of sculpture.

    The Outstanding Student Achievement in Contemporary Sculpture Award is organized by ISC, sponsored in part by Gertrud and Heinz Aeschlimann, Jarvis and Constance Doctorow Family Foundation, Grounds For Sculpture, Johnson Art and Education Foundation, and the Jon and Mary Shirley Foundation.

    The jurors for the 2011 awards were:

    • Brooke Kamin Rapaport: Independent curator and writer

    • DeWitt Godfrey: Sculptor and Director of the Institute for Creative and Performing Arts at Colgate University

    • Jon Lash: Sculptor, master of "lost wax" casting and the Director of the Digital Atelier
