    Ringling Students Have a Successful Spring & Win Awards

    April 13, 2009 -  This spring proved to be successful for many Ringling students who won awards for their artwork.  These awards were in many different competitions and categories and showcases our students' versatility and success in different areas of study.

    GIC major Tommy Pregiato won $1,000 in Creative Loafing’s “Sensory Overload” video scholarship competition. Tommy’s video, entitled “Urban Exploration,” was created in Dee Hood’s Time Based I class last fall and was selected as “Best in Show” by independent judges. Watch it here! Judges also cited Ringling Illustration major David Serna as a winner in the digital illustration category. Congratulations to Tommy and David!

    Student Ashly Lovett won "Best in Show" in the 2009 Embracing Our Differences exhibition, which debuted in late March on the Sarasota waterfront. Her piece, entitled “Apples and Oranges” was featured as the catalog cover illustration and she will be awarded a $1,000 prize. Ashly is currently studying at Pont Aven, France.     In addition to Ashly Lovett's piece, freshman Joanna Pilar Garra's work entitled "Live the Dream" also won an honorable mention for the 2009 Embracing Our Differences exhibition.  To see all accepted artwork, 45 in total, click here.

    Melanie Ratcliff and Michelle Fischer, Photography & Digital Imaging, Class of 2010, answered the Call For Aspiring Creatives and their work was chosen to be published in issue #43 of CMYK Magazine, which hit newsstands in March. Melanie's work is entitled "Dumpster Sunset: Combining Sky and Landscape" and Michelle's creatively tagged "I would tattoo your face on my leg." Both submitted as students of instructor Joyce True

    Ringling Design Center and student projects won big at the local American Advertising Federation ADDY awards taking home an impressive 43 awards. Top prizes include a Student Best of Show to senior Graphic & Interactive Communication major Brad McNally, a Judges Choice award for the Design Center and the Office of Admissions new student acceptance package, and a Student Judges Choice to Kyra Odi '10, Graphic & Interactive Communication.
