    Ringling College Team Places Third in Startup Weekend Competition

    June 19, 2013 - A Ringling College team consisting of four students and a faculty member won third place and the Community Choice award for their crime watch application, StreetWize, at the Startup Weekend of Tampa Bay.  

    The team - consisting of rising Business of Art and Design senior Andrew Angstadt, rising Graphic Design senior Jillian Bromby, rising Advertising Design juniors Meghan Cole and Jessica Kuykendall, and Ringling Adjunct Professor and Nickel Communications Creative Director Lindsey 
    Nickel-de la O - helped research, design, and develop the app which allows users to connect with emergency services via their smartphone to deliver information regarding crimes and safety.

    Sarasota, Florida – Tuesday, June 11 – Adjunct advertising design professor Lindsey Nickel-de la O and team of Ringling College students won 3rd Place and the Community Choice award for best new Startup business at the Startup Weekend of Tampa Bay for their crime watch application, StreetWize. 

    The team included rising Business of Art and Design senior Andrew Angstadt, rising Graphic Design senior Jillian Bromby and rising Advertising Design juniors Meghan Cole and Jessica Kuykendall. 

    StreetWize is an app that taps into emergency service communications and delivers it to your smart phone. Using your phone's geo-navigation technology, StreetWize allows users to access real time crime data reported in their location. While in the app, users can also respond with pertinent information about a committed crime or report a crime in progress.

    Lead by Ringling Adjunct Professor and Nickel Communications Creative Director Lindsey Nickel-de la O, the StreetWize app and its business model was pitched, researched, designed, and developed by a group of 14 volunteer designers, students and professionals.  To find out more about StreetWize and its team please visit www.nickelcommunications.com.
