Take the frustration out of observational drawing by understanding the fundamental elements of representational rendering. Emphasis will be on composition, measuring, space, line, shape, form, gesture, and value. Students will use various drawing media to capture still lifes and landscapes.
(beginner – intermediate)

NOTE: In order to receive certification credit, students must complete both sections a and b.

Learn the fundamentals of drawing from life while challenging your ability to see the human figure. Students will develop their representational drawing skills while working with techniques to establish depth, create fields of value, and direct the viewer’s focus. Emphasis will be on rendering the human form with gesture, contour, line, and value. (intermediate – advanced)

Develop your drawing techniques and improve your design skills in this exploration of the landscape. Emphasis will be placed on basic design principles, value, perspective, texture, and shadows. Students will learn to create broad-stroke drawings with clearly rendered shapes, values, and points of interest.
