Learn to render expressive figure drawings through a study of structure, anatomy, planes, and light and shade in this inspired 4-week class. You will study general proportion, form, value and gesture and learn to implement these techniques in your final drawings. Lessons will be given in hand-eye coordination, blocking-in mass shapes, as well as how to create both quick studies and contour drawings. Students will use a variety of material including charcoal, graphite, and conte crayon. This course uses live models situated in simple background environments to help students understand the figure structure as well as overall composition and to work towards artwork that can later be framed. Short gestural poses are practiced with longer poses studied to capture the complexities of the figure. Lessons will progress throughout the season for those who want to continue with new projects and challenges – including more in depth studies of black/white and specific sections of the figure as well as incorporating limited pastel colors and toned eraser techniques. Whether you are a complete beginner or a seasoned artist, all are welcome in this relaxing, inspiring, and fun live figure drawing class. All skill levels welcome throughout the season!
