Figure Painting

Description: Create powerful and expressive figure paintings from a live model through a study of structure, anatomy, light, and shade.  Master techniques for mixing paint for skin tones, shadows, and fabrics.  Learn to use measuring as a tool to loosely sketch an underpainting, build mass shapes upon it, and complete the rendering with accurate color, shadow, and depth.  Paint application, paint surface, and subtlety of color harmony will be emphasized.  All skill levels welcome.

Landscape Painting

Description: Demystify landscape painting in this enjoyable, easy to understand approach to the subject matter.  Follow a series of simplified steps based on techniques used by today’s leading landscape painters.  This dynamic workshop includes presentations, discussions, and ample studio time.  Students will work from photographs, in either oils or acrylics, and will be given individually tailored instruction while working at their easels.  All skill levels welcome.

Watercolor Painting

Description: Learn how to capture the beauty and radiance of watercolor, even if you have never painted before!  Explore both traditional and innovative approaches to watercolor as you discover the essential techniques of the medium.  Learn how to create luminous washes, work wet-into-wet, explore value changes, and establish color and light.  Creative self-expression and good design will be emphasized.  All skill levels welcome.

Expressive Painting and Collage

Description: Gain hands on knowledge of traditional and experimental methods of combining materials. This course includes teacher instruction/demonstration and teacher supported studio time, where students will be encouraged to find their artistic “voice” through exploring paint, paper, and other mixed media. Students will lean creative expression through the use of color, metaphor, theme and symbols. Experiment with multiple mediums and collage techniques while producing meaningful and expressive works. Explore the language of art through painting and collage with both brush and non-brush items. All skill levels welcome.
