Enter the world of brush and canvas and discover the timeless art form of painting.  Learn how artfully placed strokes of paint can capture and create inspiring works of art.  Discussions will introduce and refine your understanding of the visual elements of composition, color theory, perspective, and value.  Working from a still life, you will understand how to control and direct paint and brushwork to allow your own style and personality to emerge.  Students may choose to work in oils or acrylic paint.  All skill levels welcome.

LANDSCAPE PAINTING

Demystify landscape painting in this enjoyable, easy-to-understand approach to the subject matter.  Follow a series of simplified steps based on techniques used by today’s leading landscape painters.  This dynamic class  includes presentations, discussions, and ample studio time.  Students will work from photographs, in either oil or acrylics, and will be given individually-tailored instruction while working at their easels.  All skill levels welcome.

This class focuses on a contemporary approach to still life painting through observation.  Intense observation can challenge “traditional” rules.  To augment this perceptual approach, students will explore design and color techniques that incorporate modern approaches to image making including but not limited to:  -Movement, unusual perspectives, tension, balance, format and other compositional devices -Multiple light sources to create visual interest-Color practices that challenge value based painting, such as:  Use of color to turn form.  Prismatic edges.   Temperature perceptions heightened.  Intermediate to Advanced 

WATERCOLOR PAINTING

Learn how to capture the beauty and radiance of watercolor—even if you've never painted before!  Explore both traditional and innovative approaches to watercolor as you discover the essential techniques of the medium.  Learn how to create luminous washes, work wet-into-wet, explore value changes, and establish color and light. Creative self-expression and good design will be emphasized.  All skill levels welcome.

This class is designed to develop ways of saying things and translating the drawn or the verbal image into the language of abstraction thus achieving your artistic potential.  You will be encouraged to find your own style through experimentation.  Learn the technique of using acrylic paint with other mediums for special effects on different surfaces.  You will learn different styles to approach abstract paintings using color, line, form and collage will be covered.  You will experience demos and creative exercises plus one-on-one instruction followed by critiques. This class is intended for all levels of experience.
