Not everyone can commit to a month long course session. Our Master Class series addresses this with one day to one week Master Classes that will excite, challenge, engage and delight your creative sensibilities. We’ve booked the "masters" in and outside of our area to bring you experienced and exciting instructors to enjoy as well as to improve your creative and expressive abilities.

WRITING MASTER CLASS - Soul Speak Poetry

October 19-20, 2012   1 - 3 pm

Instructor: Justin Spring

Cost: $100 

Course Description: During this Master Class students will learn about the intuitive, spontaneous creation of written and oral narrative poems. Your will learn simple intuitive techniques that will allow you to create written and/or spoken poems spontaneously without forethought.

Instructor Bio: Justin Spring was educated at Columbia College. He is a prize-winning poet, writer and video artist. He is the founder of SOULSPEAK an organization dedicated to bringing poetry and art back into the everyday lives of everyday people. He has received many honors for his written poetry as well as for this recordings and visual work. Those interested in his work can find out more in his two books,"SOULSPEAK: the Outward Journey of the Soul" and "Alice Hickey: Between Worlds".

PAINTING MASTER CLASS - Painting the Florida Landscape

November 9 – 10, 2012   1-4 pm

Instructor: Tony Rich

Cost: $120

Course Description:  The unique qualities of the land, water and sky in Florida create both opportunities and challenges for the outdoor painter. This workshop will focus on approaches for capturing these opportunities through design considerations and painting techniques. There will also be an emphasis on simplifying the painting process, allowing students at all levels to improve their work. Weather permitting, the workshop will be held outdoors on Longboat Key. In case of rain, students will work in the studio. Supply List.

About the Instructor:  Tony Rich was drawn into painting at an early age through the summers he and his family spent with Georgia O’Keeffe. In 1999, Tony resumed his artistic career full time by studying at the Art Students’ League in New York and then at the Florence Academy of Art in Italy, taking courses in painting and drawing. In 2010 he earned a Master of Fine Arts in Painting from the Savannah College of Art and Design, receiving the Outstanding Graduate Student Award. In 2010, his landscape work was selected in a national competition of over a 1000 MFA’s from schools across the country, for inclusion in the annual MFA Issue of New American Painting. He has been in numerous group shows, had a solo exhibition as well as an exhibition in Europe. His work is in a number of private and institutional collections. The Rymer Gallery of Nashville, TN represents him. His work can be seen on his website, www.tonyrichart.com

DRAWING MASTER CLASS - SHIFT! A Right Brain Drawing Exercise

November 17, 2012   1 – 4:00 pm

Instructor: Melissa Mudd

Cost: $50

Course Description:  This Master Class workshop is designed for individuals with little or not drawing experience. Learning to draw is a matter of perception or seeing things as they actually are. In this 2 ½ hour course, you will be taken through a series of exercises that will strengthen your sense of visualization and capturing what you see onto a piece of paper. You will leave this workshop having a better sense of drawing that ultimately will boost your creativity and confidence.

About the Instructor:  Melissa Mudd is an artist, teacher, and researcher who echoes Emerson's assertion that "every artist was first an amateur." Her background includes teaching in the pre-k through 12, university, and adult/community education settings. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Art Education, a Bachelor of Fine Arts, a minor in Art History, and also a Masters degree in Education. Her artwork crosses multiple styles and media - including painting, drawing, fibers, and digital media - and is included in both private and corporate collections. In addition to creating her own artwork, Melissa conducts research and publishes in the areas of visual/material culture, teacher preparation, and digital/virtual art communities. She is currently working on completing her PhD in Art Education from her alma mater, the University of Missouri. She resides with her dog, Zoe, in downtown St. Petersburg only steps from the Dali Museum.   www.melissamudd.com
