The workshop will provide students with an understanding of the advertising creative process including brainstorming, ideation and layout.
Motion Design (MD, CA)
This course will explore of the fundamental principles of motion design through exercises exploring design, composition, idea generation, digital media, creative problem solving and collaboration. Emphasis is on movement, metamorphosis, transition, sequence, time and rhythm, pace and editing.
Digital Film (DF, MD, FA)
This workshop teaches you the basics of cinematic storytelling from concept to final screening. Students collaborate with each other as they write, shoot and edit narrative films. The course provides students with an immersive, fast-paced experience as they explore the many facets of the filmmaking process. This is a digital workshop.
Digital Photography (PDI, GD, MD, FA)
Students must have a digital camera (SLR) that has the capability to shoot in RAW format. From sharing images on social networking sites, to utilizing stills, video and sound in multimedia productions, photography is at the forefront of our visual culture. Students in this course learn technical aspects of digital photography as well as the digital tools to enhance and share their work. The class will use technical and thematic assignments in order to explore composition and visual communication. This is a digital workshop.
Drawing for Animation (CA, GAD, IL)
This course explores techniques and processes involved in the design and production of artwork for animation. You are introduced to the animator's process of gesture drawing and quick sketch, as well as creating volume, and depth to capture action and attitude within a single pose. The workshop stresses the importance of drawing for weight, force, thought, emotion and movement as they pertain to industry standards. This is a studio workshop.
3D Modeling (CA, SC, IL, GAD, FA)
Working in Sculpey from observation of a live model for two weeks followed by two weeks of inventing forms and shapes, this course involves a three-dimensional exploration of the male and female form along with inventing and reshaping these forms. Basic structural anatomy and the composition of masses are examined. Students will learn to observe, work with armatures, and model both mass and surface. They will make several small sculptures both male and female figures and other sculptures of their own invention. Students will be exposed to contemporary figurative sculptors. They will focus on modeling to creatively imitate what they observe.
Illustration (IL, CA, MD, GD, PT)
Illustration employs visual vocabulary, personal style and artistic experience to tell a story, relate a point of view, or express a problem to be solved. Students in this course will learn about visual expression and communication by means of drawing, painting and conceptual problem solving in order to create work that stimulates the viewer to reflect and react. This is a studio workshop.
3D Computer Animation (CA)
This workshop gives you the opportunity to discover the complexities of computer animation. We will cover subjects that are universal to most 3D software packages and to animation through a series of assignments introducing you to basic modeling, animation, texturing and lighting techniques. This course uses the 3D software Maya. This is a digital workshop.
Game Art & Design (GAD, CA)
Students will get an introduction to the Game Art and Design Major and become familiar with the Unreal Development Kit, which is a leading development software solution used throughout the Game industry. In this class students will a create physics based ball bounce, a textured cube, a high rise building and rooftop object to layout a cityscape in conjunction with assets created by their classmates and lastly collaborate on the creation of a capture the flag level design that students will be able to navigate and play based on the Ringling Campus. This is a digital workshop.
Graphic Design (GD, AD, MD)
This course introduces you to the visual theory associated with graphic design. You will use Illustrator and Photoshop to solve visual communication projects. Using type, image and color, students will create compositions in a variety of formats to convey informative and visually dynamic messages.
