Advertising Design

Bachelor of Fine Arts

 

Combine great design with business expertise and consumer psychology for the global marketplace.

Many Ringling alumni have pursued careers in advertising. Now, students who are interested in entering this $400-billion-dollar industry are able to tailor their studies to this well-established but constantly changing field. While the goal of the advertiser remains the same, the technologies, channels of delivery and global marketplace promise new challenges and opportunities.

Successful advertising is a fusion of great design, business expertise and consumer psychology. You’ll learn not only the formal and technical aspects of design, but also how to plan a campaign, evaluate an audience, develop a brand, and write compelling copy. In senior studio courses, you’ll develop a portfolio that showcases your skills in research, idea generation, systems design, promotional packaging and interactive design.

Wexley ECD McAllister Visits RCAD

Cal McAllister, CEO and Executive Creative Director of the innovative Seattle agency Wexley School For Girls, spoke to the Advertising Design department on Oct. 16th. 

He provided several Wexley client success stories, all of which created lasting, ongoing, honest relationships between clients and consumers, using a variety of "non-traditional" methods to engage those most likely to be interested.

McAllister also reviewed our student portfolios.

Recent AD Grads Featured In CMYK Magazine

The work of recent Ad Design grads Adin Kann and Jake Inferrera will be featured in the upcoming issue of CMYK Magazine, due to hit newsstands across the USA in late October.

The highly-competitive CMYK contest, judged this time by award-winning creative director Dave Holloway of Microsoft, features the hand-picked work of students from around the country.

The winners are both working in San Francisco--Inferrera at Y&R, and Kann at AKQA.

Also, almost one-third of all the ad work to be featured in this issue of CMYK was done by former students of AD faculty member Matt McCutchin.

RCAD Students Help Seabirds

The current AD juniors made headlines for the integrated rebranding campaign they created for Save Our Seabirds, a Sarasota non-profit.

"This was a 100% collaborative project," explains their professor, Matt McCutchin. "The class worked directly with CEO David Pilston - a 'perfect client' - who partnered with us to creatively solve real-world marketing issues." 

The class developed a new logo, signage, taglines and a refreshed marketing campaign.

RCAD Students Earn 2 of the 15 AAF Stickell Internships

Two junior Advertising Design students were awarded the prestigious AAF Stickell Internships for the summer of 2013. Frankie Pellegrini interned at Slingshot in Dallas, and Christian Dyer was at T3 in Austin.

Of the 61 students nominated this year, only 15 internships were awarded--and two of those 15 were selected from Ringling College. 

The interns received a stipend of $4,000 for their 10-week internship, plus either a $1,500 scholarship or assistance with housing to help defray their living expenses.
