This exhibition is part one of an international exchange project between Ringling College of Art and Design and University Veritas, Costa Rica. Anne-Marie will be selecting an exhibition of works by Ringling College Photography and Digital Imaging Students that will travel to University Veritas during the spring or fall of 2014.
The exhibition/project PLASTICALIA (www.plasticalia.com) emerged during a 2013 workshop entitled “International Career Strategies for Artists“ at the University Veritas in San José, Costa Rica. The eight female artists who participated in the workshop were invited by the teaching curator Anne-Marie Melster to be part of a group photography show in order to transform theory into practice.
The artists used a wide variety of aesthetic approaches including photography, video and installation to talk about subjects of waste, recycling, cancer, treatment of the elderly and the effects of human society on both the natural and social environment.
The visual landscape they created is imaginative and diverse but all of the art works have one objective in common: to create sensitivity and awareness about our current world and the consequences of the destruction of natural environments.
Master the techniques of the evolving medium of photography, and you'll comprehend its profound effect on our culture and world.
From exposure to ideas to ideas on exposure... at Ringling College of Art and Design, discover the power of your own photographic voice along with the tools of your trade.
