to teach design students to understand the differences and similarities of art and design; to once again believe in santa claus, the easter bunny, and monsters; to empathize with the audience; to rage against the computer, the authority, and the censors; to realize that to read, write, and discuss design improves your design; to laugh so hard you cry and cry so hard you laugh; to realize that missions, manifestoes, and mantras are works in progress and mostly full of useless words written by marketing hacks; to search out design role models that are not dead old white guys; to recognize that design is a view of the world and not a career and certainly not a job; and to change society for the better (see mission of the college).
Ringling College of Art and Design recognizes that artists and designers play a significant role in society. The school's primary mission is to provide programs leading to a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree that prepare students to be discerning visual thinkers and ethical practitioners in their chosen area of art and design.
