Step 1: Review the PreCollege Immersions
Immersion Descriptions and Course Goals
You’ll be asked to rank your preferences on the PreCollege Application. Read through ALL of the immersions listed under Curriculum, above or download the pdf here. REMEMBER: many immersions will apply to more than one major and could spark your curiosity and develop a new skill. This is a time to explore and take a few risks. Some immersions are primarily digital and aret in a computer lab, while others are strictly studio based.
Step 2: Complete the Online Application Form
PreCollege Online Application
Students must include a 250-word minimum statement on the application. Tell us about yourself, your interest and growth as an artist, and why you want to come to PreCollege. Submit the application form along with payment of the $50 Application Fee.
We do NOT require a portfolio to apply for PreCollege 2018.
Step 3: Get a Recommendation
Have your art teacher or guidance counselor submit a letter of recommendation – either using the online form below, or by submitting an email or letter to firstname.lastname@example.org. This isn’t required, but is strongly preferred as it helps us get to know you better and helps us with placement into PreCollege Immersions. Please note: if you will be applying for financial assistance through our grants, this letter is required along with two additional recommendations from other teachers and/or members of the community.
What Happens Next
Students will receive notification of acceptance by email once the application is complete and has been reviewed. Your acceptance will include the two immersions you’ve been placed in, based on your interests, statement and ranking of preferences. If a highly ranked immersion is full, you will be placed on the waiting list for that immersion and placed in another immersion. Should a seat become available in a preferred immersion, you will be contact to confirm you interest in switching immersions. We will hold you seat in the immersions until January 15, or four weeks after your acceptance notification is emailed, whichever is later, after which you must submit the $500 tuition deposit to continue to hold your seats.
In early spring, you will be sent a complete Welcome Packet of registration forms and the PreCollege Student Handbook. These required registration forms must be signed where noted and returned to the PreCollege office by May 26, 2018. No student may take up residence or begin classes until all forms are received.
Applying for Financial Assistance from Ringling College of Art and Design
Each year, the Ringling College of Art and Design is able to provide a limited number of partial need-based grants. We do not offer portfolio scholarships, but do weigh your application statement and teacher recommendations heavily when reviewing applications for assistance. Grants range from $500 up to $3500, and are rarely available to cover the full cost of the program. We encourage students and their families to seek additional, alternative sources for scholarships, including your local community foundations, arts councils or museums, and other philanthropic organizations."
The deadline for grant applications is February 21, 2018. Only complete applications can be considered.
Applications for assistance should be submitted by mail. Due to privacy concerns, do not email applications and supporting financial disclosure information.
