Jack Dowd’s 27 & Susan Zukowsky

Selby Gallery I: Sarasota artist and sculptor Jack Dowd's new series of large-scale pastels of the immortal “27 Club" is a visual, literary and musical portrait of the 12 rock stars who died at the age of 27. Their goal in life was not to live forever; their goal in life was to create something that would. They are: Amy Winehouse, Kurt Cobain, Jimi Hendrix, Janice Joplin, Jim Morrison, Brian Jones, Alan Wilson, Jean Michel Basquiat, Ron (Pig Pen) Mckernan, Rudy Lewis, Pete Ham, and Robert Johnson. The installation also includes sculptured icons bearing written segments about their songs and stories.

There will be a free public tribute performance of their music in Selby Gallery during the show by The 27 Band. For more information on Jack Dowd go to: www.jackdowd.com.

Selby Gallery II: Sarasota Artist, Susan Zukowsky, will be exhibiting her assemblages.  Her mysteriously poetic visual statements are born from found images and disparate materials such as feathers, knitting needles, beads, balls and marbles. These intricately executed and complexly conceived works, while infused with wry grit and feminine understanding, speak eloquently to topics as varied as religion, violence, motherhood, nature, loss and love.

Works featured in this mini retrospective will include mixed media collages and three-dimensional pieces from the 1970's to present day.
