An international and cultural exchange experience
The Fulbright U.S. Student Program is the flagship international exchange program of the United States. It offers students and recent graduates the opportunity to study, research, or teach English abroad. Ringling College of Art and Design was named a Top Producing Institution of Fulbright U.S. Students for 2022-23.

What is Fulbright?
History of the program:
Established in 1946 with 88 awardees, the program was unique in its focus not only on academic merit but also on binational foreign relations and public diplomacy. Today, the Fulbright program has grown to include over 8,000 US and foreign scholars annually, with the mission “to foster mutual understanding between nations, advance knowledge across communities, and improve lives around the world.”

The Fulbright Program offers Study/Research awards, English Teaching Assistant awards, as well as specialized awards and enhancements, including the Fulbright-National Geographic Award and the Critical Language Enhancement Award.

Eligibility
To be eligible for the Fulbright U.S. Student Program, applicants must be graduating seniors, recent graduates, or early career professionals and artists who meet the following basic requirements:
- Be a U.S. citizen by the application deadline.
- Have a bachelor’s degree or equivalent by the start of the grant.
- Meet any country-specific requirements for the award, including foreign language requirements if applicable.

How to Apply
The Fulbright application cycle opens in April and ends in early October each year. Applicants typically start working on their applications over the summer in order to meet all application deadlines:
- Fulbright application for Ringling students: Deadline is Sept. 6, 2024
- Ringling Campus Committee interviews are scheduled from Sept. 9-18
- The national application deadline is 5 pm Eastern Time on Oct. 8, 2024

If you intend to apply for the Fulbright U.S. Student Program and are a Ringling student or alum, please fill out Ringling’s Intent to Apply form and schedule your first advising appointment by emailing Ringling’s Fulbright Program Advisor, Dr. Genevieve Hill-Thomas.
For Foreign Students
If you are not a U.S. citizen, you may be eligible to apply through the Fulbright Foreign Student Program. Fulbright encourages applicants whose identities and abilities reflect the diversity of the United States.

Jesse Clark ’23, Photography and Imaging
Jesse Clark ’23, Photography and Imaging, received a Fulbright U.S. Student Program award to conduct photographic research in Trinidad and Tobago for the 2024-2025 academic year.
Clark will research and document the creative practices of Trinidadian and Tobagonian artists who play a critical role in the evolution of the Carnival tradition. With his photography, Clark hopes to bring visibility to their stories and contributions to preserving cultural identities during the globalization and commercialization of the tradition. His research will highlight aspects of Afro-Caribbean identity and expression that are often underrepresented or misrepresented.
DeAnna Boyer ’22, Illustration
DeAnna Boyer ’22, Illustration, spent the 2022-23 academic year in Ireland as part of her Fulbright U.S. Student Program award, which was enhanced with a Fulbright-National Geographic Storytelling Fellowship.
She attended Burren College of Art in Ballyvaughan, Ireland, and the National University of Ireland Galway where she matriculated into the joint MA program in art and ecology. Her Fulbright project included the creation of an illustrated book that seeks to connect the current culture and environment of Ireland to the historical stories and legends preserved through Celtic history.
