Living on campus is a big part of the Ringling College experience. Students live in College housing for their first two academic years, joining a community of artists and designers who learn, create, and grow together.
Ringling College residency requirement details
At Ringling College of Art and Design, the residential experience is an integral component of student learning, engagement, personal development, connection to the College community, and overall student success.
Beginning with students entering Ringling College of Art and Design in Fall 2027, eligible students are required to live on campus for their first two academic years unless they receive an approved exemption. Students with qualifying circumstances may request an exemption.
Campus Living
Living on campus gives students opportunities to develop meaningful relationships, access institutional resources and campus activities more easily, and engage in a collaborative creative living and learning community of artists and designers that extends well beyond the classroom.
Residency Exemptions
Students who may qualify for an exemption must submit a Housing Exemption Request Form and provide supporting documentation.
Exemptions may be considered for the following circumstances

- Family Responsibilities: Married, dependent children, or legal caregiving responsibilities
- Prior Postsecondary Degree: Bachelor’s degree or significant earned college credit

How to Request an Exemption
Exemptions are evaluated on a case-by-case basis.
Students requesting an exemption must:
- After making your deposit, complete the Housing Exemption Request Form in your Workday Task List no later than May 1. Applicants submitting materials after May 1 will still have access to the exemption form.
- Submit required supporting documentation.
- Respond to requests for additional information within the established timeline.
Automatic Assignment
Students without an approved exemption will be assigned College housing and a 19 meal plan. Applicable fees will be charged.
