What is Studio Agnew?
A new studio founded on creative exploration, storytelling, and hands-on making is finding a permanent home after two years of on-site, mobile workshops brought to communities around Florida.
Created by ’10 graduate Lindsay Agnew, Studio Agnew is just the latest creation in a long line of the founder’s artistic career. Starting out at Walt Disney Imagineering, Agnew earned a name for herself as a strong visual communicator and consultant before working with other companies such as Universal Orlando, TAIT, and HRO Today. Agnew also runs her own graphic design consulting firm as well as a children’s book author and illustrator.
Humble Beginnings
Studio Agnew came to fruition in 2024 after noticing a gap between families and communities that wanted art classes and the businesses that were providing them.
The idea started small, with accessible art lessons taught at senior communities, and expanded from there. Grandparents told parents, parents told kids, and the word spread of lessons that focused on reconnection, expression, and growth at every artistic level.
Families in particular loved the idea, especially as funding for public art education is ever-shrinking while bigger studios shift focus towards digital media and flashy final projects, leaving those who understand the value of the creative process struggling to find places to express it. Studio Agnew aims to bridge the gap by offering professional experiences that emphasize exploration and creation over the final outcome.
What Now?
Starting with a grand opening on July 17, Studio Agnew offers weekly hands-on experiences, pop-up workshops, and seasonal activities that are open to anyone curious enough to try.
One of the studio’s most important values since day one has been keeping the classes accessible to all. Lessons focus on meeting its students where they are and adjusting courses for individual needs, making it a very welcoming space for young children as well as older participants.
Another unique aspect of this studio is its emphasis on physical creation, prioritizing tangible art that participants can take home at the end of the day. This includes subjects such as painting, clay, and watercolor, to more adventurous styles such as cyanotype printing.
Studio Agnew also keeps to community values by committing itself to sustainable practices, sourcing second-hand supplies and machinery that would otherwise be thrown away.
