We are please to introduce you to the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at Ringling College, or OLLI at Ringling College!
In December, the Ringling College Lifelong Learning Academy (RCLLA) was awarded a monumental $100,000 grant from the Bernard Osher Foundation, a San Francisco-based philanthropic organization that seeks to improve the quality of life through support for higher education and the arts. To mark the academy’s inclusion in the foundation’s national network, RCLLA has renamed itself OLLI at Ringling College.
According to the Executive Director of OLLI, Janna Overstreet, the earnings from the grant will help support operations. A portion of the funds will be dedicated to hiring a community outreach coordinator whose work will focus on, encouraging a sense community among students, establishing intergenerational programs with Ringling College students, and furthering community engagement initiatives.
“Lifelong Learning Academy has built a robust program over the past 20 years,” says Overstreet. “This national recognition is a remarkable testament to our accomplishment and it opens the door to even greater accomplishments in the future. The Osher Foundation’s generous support will empower us to reach out to even more people in the Sarasota-Manatee region who want to pursue new interests, expand intellectual horizons and enrich their lives through lifelong learning. We’ll also be working closely with the Ringling College community to build a wide range of intergenerational programs. We’re looking forward to this exciting new chapter!"
