Ringling College’s diversity and equity education program

The DEEP (Diversity, Equity, Education, and Professionalism) Certificate Program is designed to enhance the knowledge and awareness of Ringling College faculty, staff, and students on key issues related to diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice. Through a mix of engaging workshops and participation in intercultural events, the program helps develop intercultural competence and enriches our community’s inclusive culture.

Flexible workshop enrollment

You can choose workshops in any order and at your own pace.

To receive the DEEP Certificate:

Certificate levels:

  • Level 1: Foundations of Diversity and Equity
    • Complete four workshops and two on-campus intercultural events.
  • Level 2: Advancement Engagement in Diversity and Equity
    • Complete eight workshops and four intercultural events (on or off-campus).

Event tracking:

Participants can keep track of their intercultural event attendance by downloading the record of attendance and getting it signed by the event coordinator at each event. Further instructions will be provided in each workshop.

Pre-Workshop Events:

Note that intercultural events attended before starting the workshops may not be counted.

Principles that Define Our Community

This workshop introduces key diversity, equity, and inclusion terms, focusing on the principles that make Ringling College unique and inclusive. Participants will engage in discussions about how these principles shape our community and learn strategies for fostering an inclusive environment in their professional practices.

Intro to Intersecting Identities

This workshop introduces the concepts of identity and intersectionality. It will explore the idea that we all have unique and complex identities that affect how we experience the world. Participants will be able to gain insight into the influence of their own intersecting identities while increasing their understanding of intersectionality from a sociocultural and generational perspective.

Safe Zones 101 – Understanding the 2SLGBTQ+ Community

This is an introductory workshop designed to provide participants with foundational knowledge about the 2SLGBTQ+ community. This workshop aims to create a safe and inclusive environment where participants can learn about terminology, identities, and experiences within the 2SLGBTQ+ spectrum. Through interactive discussions and activities, attendees will gain insights into the challenges faced by 2SLGBTQ+ individuals and explore strategies for creating safe spaces.

The Fine Art of Bridging Cultures

This interactive workshop will provide participants with the opportunity to reflect on the meaning of culture and the challenges inherent in intercultural communication. Prompted by student experiences, we will explore cultural differences and approaches to navigating the complexities of communicating across cultures. Topics addressed will include managing conflict across different international contexts and cultural appreciation vs. cultural appropriation.
