It’s been a busy week here at Ringling College of Art and Design. Residence halls are open for new international students. All incoming students attended orientation yesterday, and the rest of the student body will soon join their classmates on the first day of classes.

New Student Orientation started August 13, beginning with Move-In Day for new students and commencing with a full program of activities, informational sessions, and the New Student Orientation event at the Van Wezel. Meanwhile, Move-in Day for returning students begins at 10 am today. The fall semester officially starts the following Monday, August 18.
Sarasota Art Museum will host a Family Day today from 12-5 pm. Students and their families are invited to enjoy free admission to the Museum, with shuttles transporting them between the College and Museum. Students can explore the exhibitions, learn about opportunities available, participate in activities, and more.
A detailed schedule for Pre-Orientation for International Students (which started August 9) and New Student Orientation can be found on the College’s website. Activities and services include informational presentations, Q&As, campus tours, introductions to the neighborhood, free shopping shuttles to and from Target, and an Official Welcome and Academic Overview. There are also informational sessions specifically for parents.

On Saturday, August 16, students participate in a half-day of community service in partnership with a chosen local nonprofit or service organization. Past projects have included beach and trail clean-ups, playground makeovers, and community garden site beautifications. You can learn more about this year’s partner organizations and sign up for Service Projects by contacting the Community Engaged Learning staff at volunteerism@ringling.edu.

New Student Orientation aids the transition into Ringling College culture, but it’s only the beginning. Student Life offers a comprehensive array of activities and services throughout the academic calendar (and even outside of the school year) to ensure that Ringling students are fully nurtured and engaged in their community. These offerings include Student Support Services to bolster academic achievement and promote mental and physical health; likewise, a long list of activities and student-run clubs facilitates a full, well-rounded life for students beyond the classroom.
More than 70% of Ringling students live on campus, compared to the estimated 60% at most four-year universities. The College strives to provide extensive resources to engage, support, and inspire the student community.
