Technology

Most Wired Campus in America

On your first day at Ringling College, you receive a brand new, high-end laptop, loaded with the most up-to- date software, free of charge. We will provide both hardware and software maintenance support for your laptop for the duration of your study. Ringling College has embraced virtual and cloud technologies to support our user community. Cloud technologies enable our students to access their projects and work whenever and wherever they want, from almost any device.

We want to make sure that no matter where your inspiration leads you, we offer the resources to back you up. On campus we offer labs stocked with 550 Macintosh computers, 319 PCs, Cintiq Tablets, high-resolution laser printers, 3D printers, laser cutters, and so much more.

Students also have access to large-format printing and can use our digital checkout system to utilize a fantastic array of high-tech gear like game consoles, video cameras, and digital projectors.

And, of course, our campus is equipped with free wifi, and our Academic Center can connect 3,000 devices at any given time. We are here to support you, and to make sure you never have to slow down.

That’s what you get when you step onto the Most Wired Campus in America (US News & World Report).

Your fully equipped laptop, on us

To mold our students into the creative leaders and thinkers of tomorrow, we understand they need to start working like professionals today. That is why, from day one, our students receive a free Wacom Mobile Studio Pro fully-loaded with all the latest software for their major, free of charge.

Work from anywhere

The Ringling College Athena Initiative is a new cloud-based computer platform that allows you to access your own “compute server” from almost any device, anywhere, anytime with high-resolution support and 3D graphics capabilities.

This means the freedom to access your files just as you left them from your Windows computer, Macintosh, smartphone, or tablet—effectively turning your device of choice into a portal to a powerful, mobile workstation comparable to your typical Windows workstation with 3D applications such as Maya and Zbrush.

As if that weren’t enough, Athena provides free annual hardware upgrades while you are a student, regular automated upgrades of the latest software and security programs, nightly backup service, and retrieval of lost files for up to 10 days.

We strive to make technology resources readily available everywhere. You’ll find our technology is abundant, advanced, and tailored to meet the needs of artists and designers. General purpose and discipline-specific hardware, such as cutting-edge workstations; and software, such as ZBrush, are deployed in over 40 instructional computer laboratories across campus.

Spaces

The Alfred R. Goldstein Library features a wide variety of quiet, group study, and work process spaces. Looking for a quiet study area? Make your way up to the 3rd floor to look for a book in the Research Collection or peruse the new art magazines while relaxing in comfortable seating. When the weather is nice, you can take your coffee from Roberta’s Café on the first floor to one of the four terraces to work outside and enjoy the sights and sounds of nature. Looking for meeting space to get together with a group? Check out the group study rooms, which are available on all three floors of the Goldstein Library. The 10 group study rooms are available to students on a first-come first served basis, or available for booking by Ringling College faculty and staff for group and class meetings.
