FutureProof ’22: The Motion Design Conference at Ringling College

Preparing the next generation of visual communicators through education, inspiration, and connection.

Taking place February 28 – March 4, 2022, FutureProof provides Ringling College students with a professional motion design conference experience. This is the 7th year this unique, week-long event will offer a variety of presentations, workshops, and activities all designed to prepare the student for a smooth transition from the classroom experience into their future careers, and takes place conveniently at the Roskamp Exhibition Hall on Ringling College’s Main Campus.

The conference name, FutureProof, was chosen to remind the students that being well prepared is the best plan to ensure a bright future.

This year, FutureProof is bringing in an amazing collection of animators, designers, and creatives to speak to the students and provide interactive workshop experiences. Our 2022 in-person keynote speakers are: Antonio Hardy, Executive Producer; Chris Finn, Creative Director; Drew Hancock, Creative Resource Manager; and Krista Templeton, Marketing Director from Scholar, Los Angeles, CA; Zoë Miolla, Designer, Nickelodeon, NY; Joe Donaldson, Head of Design, BUCK, NY; Ant Baena, Creative Director, FutureDeluxe. Online presenters include: Bee Grandinetti, Director, Hornet, Stockholm, Sweden; Osvaldo Gonzalez, Paola Grillon, and Vivian Galainena, Telemundo, Miami, FL; Matt Darnall and Scott Friske , Hue&Cry, Richmond, VA; and Kurt Hartman, Nickelodeon, NY.

Several Motion Design alumni will also be joining us to share their experiences and words of advice. This year we are thrilled to feature the following alumni at FutureProof: Klarissa Parduba, Hulu; Maddy Hodgetts, Real Chemistry; Steve Biggert, Elastic; Bri Geoghegan, Ziphouse, Martin Cusano, FutureDeluxe; and Alex Pope, Freelance.

In addition to industry presenters, there are numerous workshops designed to help students with the practical aspects of first-time hires. The Ringling College Center for Career Services offers workshops on resume building, professional communications, and finding internships.

The conference concludes by showcasing the Senior Demo Duel. This is a March Madness type of competition between Motion Design Senior Demo Reels. The audience votes in real time to move forward a demo reel to the final round, where the winner is crowned the Demo Demon. The event is a fun and friendly celebration of the seniors’ body of work.

Motion Design is the professional industry that creates moving imagery for all types of screens. Motion Design can be seen throughout all forms of communication, education, and entertainment. Movie and television title sequences, large-scale projections and screens in Times Square, augmented reality on smartphones and tablets, sports graphics packages for the Olympics and Super Bowl, interactive museum and gallery experiences—these are some of the many applications for Motion Design.

Ringling College’s Department of Motion Design has been ranked second among the Best Motion Graphics Schools in the World. The Department has received numerous national and international awards, including National Gold ADDY Awards, D&AD Pencil Award, Art Directors Club Awards, and our alumni have won numerous EMMY Awards. Our students are highly sought after by industry recruiters, in part due to the exceptional opportunities offered to our students, such as FutureProof.

FutureProof 22 – Speaker Testimonials

“Future Proof is always excellently organized and the entire staff cares so deeply for the students’ education. The professional resources they pull together for a week-long creative festival are astounding. I wish I had something like that when I was in school! As someone with over a decade in the industry, I walked away feeling so inspired. All the students are so talented and respectful, it reminded me of why I got into the industry in the first place. I wish I could come back every year.” – Krista Templeton, Marketing Director, Scholar

“Absolutely blown away by the work the students had to show at Future Proof 2022. Some of the students looked ready to join some of the best studios in the industry tomorrow, such a thoughtful and engaging group!” – Drew Hancock, Creative Resource Manager, Scholar

“Future Proof allowed us to give students hands-on experience with some of our most common practices as a studio. Seeing the students adapt what they’ve learned and absorb new techniques was an impressive glimpse into the passion and talent within the Motion Design program.” – Chris Finn, Creative Director, Scholar

“It wasn’t just the caliber of creative skill that was impressive but also the overall faculty and curriculum that the students have been exposed to that really stood out. The way that the students fully showed up was impressive and being able to add our real-world knowledge to their skills was a grand experience all around.” – Antonio Hardy, Executive Producer, Scholar

“As always it was really great to meet and connect with your students as we’ve really been missing our annual recruitment conferences. With our ever changing world and so many artists working virtually from anywhere, it’s so crucial for us to stay engaged and dialed in to the new and upcoming talent that Ringling is so famous for.” – Jeff Bybee, Head of Production, Scholar
