FutureProof – The Motion Design Conference

FutureProof – The Motion Design Conference

The Department of Motion Design at Ringling College presents FutureProof – The Motion Design Conference

March 4th-8th, 2019 – Diane Roskamp Exhibition Hall, Ringling College Campus

(Sarasota, FL—February 20, 2019) FutureProof provides Ringling College students with a professional motion design conference experience. This is the 5th year this unique, week-long event will offer a variety of presentations, workshops, and activities all designed to prepare the student for a smooth transition from the classroom experience into their future careers.

The name, FutureProof, was chosen for the rebranding of the Motion Design’s Professional Week to remind the students that being well prepared is the best plan to ensure a bright future.

This year, FutureProof is bringing in an amazing collection of animators, designers, and creatives to speak to the students and provide interactive workshop experiences. Our 2019 keynote speakers are Erica Gorochow, PepRally, NYC; Kelli Miller, And/Or, NYC; Zander Brimijoin, Red Paper Heart, NYC; David Lehman, HUSH, NYC; Sean McClintock and Timo Prousalis, Hue & Cry, Richmond, VA; Chris Kelly and Colin Trenter, Oddfellows, San Francisco, CA.

In addition to industry presenters, there are numerous workshops designed to help the student with the practical aspects of first-time hires. The Ringling College Center for Career Services offers workshops on résumé basics, professional communications, and finding internships. The Business of Art and Design faculty will be offering workshops on the Business of Freelancing. And Ringling College’s own Human Resources will be offering a workshop on Understanding HR for the newly hired.

A special etiquette dining experience for the Motion Design seniors will be provided, including a full, sit-down lunch to be served to all the seniors, while addressing the finer points of dining within a professional environment. During the interview process, students may be taken out to lunch and showing proper etiquette could make the difference between getting the position or not.

The conference concludes on a highlight with the Senior Demo Duel. This is a March Madness type of competition between Motion Design Senior Demo Reels. The audience votes in real time to move forward a demo reel to the final round, where the winner is crowned the Demo Demon. The event is a fun and friendly celebration of the senior’s body of work.

FutureProof has been sponsored in part by the generous donations of Renee Hamad, Gloria Rigopulos, Elizabeth Riker, and an anonymous donor.

Motion Design is the professional industry that creates moving imagery for all types of screens. Motion Design can be seen throughout all forms of communication, education, and entertainment. Movie and television title sequences, large-scale projections and screens in Times Square, augmented reality on smart phones and tablets, sports graphics packages for the Olympics and Super Bowl, interactive museum and gallery experiences—these are some of the many applications for Motion Design.

Ringling College’s Department of Motion Design is ranked third among the Best Motion Graphics Schools in the World.  The Department has received numerous national and international awards, including National Gold ADDY Awards, D&AD Pencil Award, Art Directors Club Awards, and two recent alumni won an EMMY for Outstanding Title Sequence Design for their work on Counterpart. Our students are highly sought after by industry recruiters, in part due to the exceptional opportunities offered to our students, such as FutureProof.
