Elena Serenko ’24, Computer Animation describes her message-driven creative process in an article about her student animation for The Rookies. Serenko was drawn to creative media for its capacity to create social change and stir empathy in viewers. For her mid-century-inspired animation The Red Heel, she tackles misogyny with humor.

Serenko shared, “I created this film as a tribute to the incredible art of the 1950s, aiming to preserve its unique charm in a 3D space. Finding ways to stay true to camera-locked textures, vibrant line art, and abstract character design made the project incredibly fun to work on! Plus, using comedy as a vehicle for deeper social commentary added another layer of enjoyment.”
