Join us at 7pm, on Friday, October 13, 2023, at the Morganroth Auditorium, as Ringling College of Art and Design presents an evening with Evelyn Miralles.

Miralles is NASA’s former chief engineer for the Virtual Reality Lab at the Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas. Throughout her 27-year career at NASA she garnered multiple awards, including recognition for co-developing DOUG, the flight software that has been used to train astronauts for every space shuttle and International Space Station mission since 2000; and EDGE software, used in research facilities across the country. Miralles was appointed as the Associate VP for Strategic Information Initiatives and Technology at the University of Houston Clear Lake, where she served as an executive advisor for the University’s President’s office and the executive leadership team. She recently became Founder and CEO of Xploration LLC in 2023, a futuristic tech consulting company specializing in the dynamic intersection of knowledge between “aerospace, technology, and education.”

Hosted by the Ringling’s Virtual Reality Development department, Miralles is the first in an exciting lineup of guest speakers invited to present on campus.

Her presentation will

  • explore her background and educational journey, working with computers, advancing technology, and digital art
  • discuss her career with NASA, and how they and other companies are navigating the world of immersive technology, including VR/XR and the metaverse
  • draw connections and intersections between these various technologies and the art world

The mother of two young women, Miralles is a firm believer in providing strong role models for women and girls and inspiring all students to pursue careers in science and applied technology. A pioneer in her field, Miralles has been breaking barriers and inspiring diversity across VR and STEM industries for decades.

This event is free and open to all students, faculty, and staff at Ringling College, as well as members of the public. Press are encouraged to RSVP in order to reserve seating.
